Have you been to Tokyo yet? If not you have to go. As of now (sep-23) the yen makes a trip very budget friendly compared to some years ago. There are tons to things to explore and here are some favorite things I have noted during my visits. Ready, set, go:
- Tokyo tower at dawn. Best seen from Tokyo metropolitan Shiba park.
- Running Sumida river. Flat, fast and make you feel like a part of the city.
- Cafe and tea house experiences.
- Visit a themed cafes. Robot cafe, Pokémon, Peanuts and more.
- Morning run or walk around Imperial palace.
- Akihabara electric town.
- Disney by the sea – purchase tickets in advance. In this Disney park you surprisingly find more adults than children.
- Rainbow bridge. Beautiful at day and night.
- Asakusa touristy but a must see. Here you can purchase souverniers and make wishes come true.
- Latte art at a good place. The small and incredibly cute Uptoyou coffee house I recommend.
- Read the Time out online magazine for best places.
- Ginza
- Eat shake shack burgers. American chain but you need to try if you have not.
- Cuddle with animals cafe
- Visit Shinjuku garden and enjoy a coffee at the beautiful Starbucks cafe.
- Dress up in kimono and take photos.
- Visit a gaming hall and try to grab a soft toy from one of the machines.
- Dress up like super Mario and do go carting at the streets in Roppongi.
- Go shopping at Mega stores 7 floor where you can find everything.
- Bring your passport if you go shopping for above 5000Yen, then you don’t need to pay tax.
- Visit the neighborhood of Nakameguro to stroll along the canal. Also perfect spot for cherry blossom.
- Stay at a capsule hotel. Local experience guaranteed.
- Drink sake at a sake bar. Kampai!
- Head out of Tokyo to Hakone and stay at an onsen.
- Take a stroll in Yoyogi park.
- Take the elevator up in the government building and enjoy the view.
- Have a drink at the sky bar Ce la vie.
- Go for drinks in they hidden alleys at Shinjuku.
- Cruise down the river of Sumida.
- Take the subway out to the suburbs and stroll around to watch the local life.
- Shibuya sky has one of the best views if you enjoy that kind of things.
- Wifi is available everywhere so no need to buy any SIM card. Don’t waste your trip scrolling social media. Download maps.

- Tokyo fish market Tsjiukin is worth a visit in the morning for fresh sushi.
- Buy matcha to bring home.
- Visit 7eleven and buy everything that looks exciting and have for dinner.
- Pick a local neighborhood from google maps and go there for a random visit.
- But a subway pass to avoid visiting the cash machines for every ride.
- Visit lucky cats temple at Gotoku-ji and take also a special cat train. Google event Nekodensya and you will find it.
- Go bar hoping with expats and locals at Akasaka
- Take a stroll in Hama-rikyou gardens and visit the tea house.
- Visit a local supermarkets food hall. Usually located at the bottom of department stores.
