43 best tips for Tokyo

Have you been to Tokyo yet? If not you have to go. As of now (sep-23) the yen makes a trip very budget friendly compared to some years ago. There are tons to things to explore and here are some favorite things I have noted during my visits. Ready, set, go:

  1. Tokyo tower at dawn. Best seen from Tokyo metropolitan Shiba park.
  2. Running Sumida river. Flat, fast and make you feel like a part of the city.
  3. Cafe and tea house experiences.
  4. Visit a themed cafes. Robot cafe, Pokémon, Peanuts and more.
  5. Morning run or walk around Imperial palace.
  6. Akihabara electric town.
  7. Disney by the sea – purchase tickets in advance. In this Disney park you surprisingly find more adults than children.
  8. Rainbow bridge. Beautiful at day and night.
  9. Asakusa touristy but a must see. Here you can purchase souverniers and make wishes come true.
  10. Latte art at a good place. The small and incredibly cute Uptoyou coffee house I recommend. 
  11. Read the Time out online magazine for best places.
  12. Ginza
  13. Eat shake shack burgers. American chain but you need to try if you have not.
  14. Cuddle with animals cafe
  15. Visit Shinjuku garden and enjoy a coffee at the beautiful Starbucks cafe.
  16. Dress up in kimono and take photos.
  17. Visit a gaming hall and try to grab a soft toy from one of the machines.
  18. Dress up like super Mario and do go carting at the streets in Roppongi.
  19. Go shopping at Mega stores 7 floor where you can find everything.
  20. Bring your passport if you go shopping for above 5000Yen, then you don’t need to pay tax.
  21. Visit the neighborhood of Nakameguro to stroll along the canal. Also perfect spot for cherry blossom.
  22. Stay at a capsule hotel. Local experience guaranteed.
  23. Drink sake at a sake bar. Kampai!
  24. Head out of Tokyo to Hakone and stay at an onsen.
  25. Take a stroll in Yoyogi park.
  26. Take the elevator up in the government building and enjoy the view.
  27. Have a drink at the sky bar Ce la vie.
  28. Go for drinks in they hidden alleys at Shinjuku.
  29. Cruise down the river of Sumida.
  30. Take the subway out to the suburbs and stroll around to watch the local life.
  31. Shibuya sky has one of the best views if you enjoy that kind of things.
  32. Wifi is available everywhere so no need to buy any SIM card. Don’t waste your trip scrolling social media. Download maps.
  33. If you are looking for vintage designer handbags Tokyo is the place to buy them.
  34. Tokyo fish market Tsjiukin is worth a visit in the morning for fresh sushi.
  35. Buy matcha to bring home.
  36. Visit 7eleven and buy everything that looks exciting and have for dinner.
  37. Pick a local neighborhood from google maps and go there for a random visit.
  38. But a subway pass to avoid visiting the cash machines for every ride.
  39. Visit lucky cats temple at Gotoku-ji and take also a special cat train. Google event Nekodensya and you will find it.
  40. Go bar hoping with expats and locals at Akasaka
  41. Take a stroll in Hama-rikyou gardens and visit the tea house.
  42. Visit a local supermarkets food hall. Usually located at the bottom of department stores.
  43. Go shopping basic clothes at the Uniqlo flagship store.
