Top hike in Switzerland
Have you also seen these beautiful postcard like hikes that sometimes drops into your digital flow. I went to one. In Stoos, Switzerland and it was as walking around in a postcard. Truly. But the start was different. I took an early train to go there and the sky was literary opening up to wide open when I was on the final bus to the start. So much rain. I know the weather in the mountain can change quickly and the forecast also showed it would be better at 11 so no need to panic. The worst thing that can happen is that it would still be a bucket list to do. The rain stopped when I was on the worlds steepest cable car on the way up to the hiking start. Took a small walk in the village of Stoos and got amazed that people actually live there. They even had a school and kindergarten. Up in a miniature village. Amazing.

Stoos alpine village
The weather got better as promised but clouds were still covering the 1922 meter altitude but I went up anyway in the the chair lift, had a drink and read my book at the mountain café wile waiting for the clouds to disappear. Minutes before 11 they did and the views got insane. Snow covered mountains one way and alpine lakes the other. A two hour scenic hike was waiting and I was looking forward big times walking the panorama trail at the edge of the mountain. Sorry but I am a sucker for great views and here they were in 360 degrees angle.

It wasn’t crowded at all and weather kept on getting better. Some clouds here and there but honestly more like able than clear blue insta friendly sky all the day. The hike was classified as difficult and I saw people were struggling and two fellow American hikers I spoke to said they would need a rest for a week after this but it was seriously not that difficult. Hiking boots would be to recommend though since it could be slippery at some points and stony but I saw a lot of people wearing sneakers that changed from nice and white to brown.

During the peak season you don’t need to walk down if you don’t want but this time the chair lift down was closed but personally I would have planned to hike down anyhow. It just took 2 hours and that included photo breaks.

All hikes comes with a fika break and I was prepared with a muffin and cookies to eat for lunch at the top. There are a lot of places to stop and enjoy the view throughout the path. I had one more sit down stop to have a fruit and watch the view during the walk.

This is truly one of the most scenic hikes I have done in Switzerland. It gave me somehow flashbacks to Maccu Piccu at some points and Faeroe islands at others.

The way down passed through some snow covered areas so I just had to make some snowballs. Why not? It was a bit wet and one guy hiking just ahead of me slipped in the mud on the way down.

The full route I walked took 3 hours and 45 minutes of walking but then I also stopped to enjoy quite some times so I would say five hours. When I came down to the village again I occupied one swing at a children playground and never wanted to get up and there was no kids in sight.

This is really a hike I can recommend. It doesn’t take more than 2 hours by public transport to get to from Zürich and is well worth it. The most challenging part was all stairs but once I get the views it is always worth it a million times.
